Watermelon Fertility Salad

With the summer heat and Pitta season in full effect, it can be hard to work up an appetite for heavy foods. Salads are a great way to eat light in the Summer time and still get all of the nutrients we need to boost our fertility.

This refreshing watermelon salad is great for staying cool and hydrated. It will also help you and your partner towards becoming parents of a beautiful child!

This recipe calls for arugula, cilantro and pine nuts, which are all fertility enhancing.

Arugula is high in folate, a vitamin B that helps women ovulate. It also will naturally increase a woman’s libido, which can be a side effect to a person experiencing Pitta imbalance. In men, leafy greens such as arugula will improve the balance of testosterone with estrogen, allowing more testosterone to circulate freely in the body.

Cilantro is another great food that benefits both women looking to get pregnant and looking to balance their Pitta dosha. It is a recommended herb for fertility in Ayurveda.

Pine Nuts are a great source of essential nutrients such as Omega 6 and Zinc. Both are essential for fertility in males and females. They balance hormone levels and improve sperm health.

This recipe serves four. Because watermelon has such a high water content, this salad is best when eaten shortly after it is prepared. Otherwise, it may get soggy if it sits overnight.

Watermelon, Arugula and Pine Nut Salad:

-3 cups cubed (1/2 to 3/4 inch) seeded watermelon, drained

-6 cups baby arugula

-1/4 cup pine nuts

-1/3 cup crumbled feta (if you are vegan or dairy free, here is a great recipe for a soy-free vegan feta cheese!)

-Coarsely ground black pepper to taste

Cilantro Lime Vinaigrette (optional):

-2 tablespoons fresh lime juice

-1 garlic clove, minced

-1/2 teaspoon organic honey

-1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

-2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

-1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro


  1. Whisk all of the vinaigrette except for the olive oil together in a medium to large bowl. Slowly add in the olive oil until emulsified.

  2. Add watermelon, arugula, and pine nuts and toss to coat.

  3. Sprinkle feta and pepper on top. Serve immediately and enjoy!
