Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra

The Mahamrityunjaya Mantra is one of yoga's most powerful mantras. It has an extensive history and an even greater effect on the mind and body. It is a great mantra to sing as we exit the cold winter months because it exerts feelings of death within the spirit and allows space for new life in the body. Chanting the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra will awaken a healing force that can help block emotions of fear and liberate the soul from past-life trauma.

It is best to chant this mantra when in a comfortable, meditative seat. The words are:

Om Tryambakam Yajamahe

Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam

Urvarukamiva Bandhanan

Mrityor Mukshiya Maamritat

As you continue to chant this mantra for at least 5 minutes, acknowledge any emotions that may arise during this practice. They may cause erratic thoughts or discomfort, but let these feelings release on the exhale, through the crown chakra.

“The maha mrityunjaya mantra can help you tune into the vital force that is always at work within you, supporting your growth, lifting you up in times of trouble, and reminding you of the higher aim of life.” (via)
